Enquanto ainda finalizava o álbum Tug of War<\/strong> em 1982, Paul McCartney se viu frente a um desafio: compor uma música que representasse a cultura das nações e fosse recebida como um “hino da paz”.<\/p>\n

A “encomenda” da música – que viria ser Pipes of Peace<\/strong> (faixa-título do álbum homônimo de 1983) veio por meio de um velho conhecido de Paul, George Melly – um mestre do jazz conterrâneo da velha Liverpool.<\/p>\n

O tempo para entregar a canção ia passando e o tema sugerido ganhou outros contornos. Na verdade, ele seria bem específico: o chamado Truce Day,<\/strong> quando os exércitos de Alemanha e Inglaterra decidiram dar uma trégua no Dia de Natal de 1914, de em meio à Primeira Guerra Mundial.<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\nPara descrever as ações de Pipes of Peace e<\/strong> da Trégua do Dia de Natal, Paul recorreu aos serviços da produtora Keefco. O clipe – que mostra Paul contracenando consigo mesmo – sendo um militar alemão e outro inglês – venceria na categoria de Melhor Vídeo Britânico de Rock & Pop de 1984.<\/p>\nRodado em Chobham Common, a oeste da capital Inglesa, o clipe replica os eventos da Trégua do Dia de Natal, documentados em um programa transmitido pela BBC 2 em 1981: Peace in No Man’s Land.<\/strong><\/p>\nCuriosidades<\/strong><\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XdLtMzCG22g\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n·  Produzido por George Martin<\/strong>, o single chegou ao primeiro lugar no Reio Unido no final de 1983.<\/p>\n·   A letra faz um trocadilho em inglês:<\/strong> Ao invés do convite para fumar o popular “pipe” – que também significa cachimbo, em inglês – as pessoas eram motivadas a tocar os instrumentos musicais em “nome da paz”.<\/p>\n·   O canadense James Robert Kippen<\/strong> toca tabla, obtendo incrível efeito percussivo (semelhante a um tambor).
